Founded in Brisbane in 2001, Mercury Mobility built its business locally, gaining a track record for delivering carriers profitability and product innovation.

Mercury was one of the first to market in Australia with a Polyphonic Ringtone in 2001, Mercury was first to market with a real tone in 2004 and then with Mobile TV and Ring Back Tones in 2005.

Cellnet Group Limited (Cellnet) established a relationship with Mercury from its inception, initially assisting in the distribution of pre paid ringtone cards to its telecommunication customer base.  Cellnet acquired the Mercury business with effect from 1 July 2004. 

Mercury proceeded to develop its product range and technology and in 2005 they expanded internationally and secured major accounts in Europe and North America. 

Mercury demerged from Cellnet mid 2007 and listed on the Australian Stock Exchange on 2 August, 2007.
